Aunt Flo: A Comic About Menstruation
This comic was created as a college project. Menstruation is still considered a taboo subject in India and lack of proper information and can cause a lot of problems. I made an educational comic on menstruation to educate young girls about menstruation in a fun way. Adding the superhero elements would help in making it more interesting and empowering.
The idea behind this book was to avoid making menstrual health education less clinical and not fun, and empowering for children. I tried to achieve this by making a protagonist who turns into a superheroine while learning more about her body and fighting social stigma and problems menstruators face.
In order to talk about problems such as poor hygiene, societal restrictions imposed on menstruators, I turned those problems into monsters out protagonist would fight.
A huge inspiration behind this comic was publications like Tinkle, Magic pot, Chacha Chaudhary, and the various games they had in them. Hence I added pages with educational activities and fun facts to add more value.
